Performance

Macdara Smith’s performance work spans performance, music, writing, and visual art. He has been described as drawing on the Irish tradition of the seanachaí, or storyteller, alongside contemporary performance practices.

His performances often take the form of a conference opening out onto other forms (music, visuals, body art). Recently he has begun to explore the form of stand up comedy, with its frontal, immediate approach.

His work is site-specific and multiform, combining writing, visuals, and music. As a trumpet player and singer, he has performed with various groups across Europe, and his practice continues to move across disciplines without settling into any single form.
